History

AVDA was established in 1995 in response to the
centralization of the Coast Guard documentation offices and the need to formalize the
professional status of U.S. documentation services. AVDA is a California Nonprofit
Mutual Benefit Corporation with a structure designed to serve a national base of members.
AVDA has five members on the Board of Directors who are elected to serve 2 year terms.
AVDA meetings are held at various locations around the United States so that all
members have an opportunity to attend. Previous locations have been Fort Lauderdale,
FL; San Diego, CA; Falling Waters, WV; San Antonio, TX; Newport Beach, CA; Charleston, SC;
and St. Petersburg, FL.
Panel speakers have been the Manager of The National Vessel Documentation Center, Chairman
of the Committee on Marine Financing of the Maritime Law Association of the United States,
a vessel documentation computer expert, custom house broker, a yacht salesman and expert
on repossession, several maritime attorneys and our own legal counsel who serves as Chair
of the ABA Subcommittee on Maritime financing.
